Today, we’re excited to announce the release of Native Slack Interactions, a significant upgrade to Merlin Agent Builder that makes it dramatically easier for teams to build and deploy AI agents that operate directly inside Slack. This new guided experience removes the deep technical overhead traditionally required to set up Slack apps, so teams can move from idea to active agent in minutes, not hours.
What’s new: A seamless, guided Slack setup
Native Slack Interactions moves Slack setup and configuration directly into Merlin Agent Builder, removing the need to switch between Tray and Slack admin interfaces.
Guided Slack app setup
Our new configuration flow walks you step-by-step through connecting your Slack workspace. Tray automatically handles app manifests, scopes, OAuth redirect URIs, and event subscriptions behind the scenes, so builders don’t have to manage these pieces manually.
The entire configuration happens through Merlin Agent Builder's guided interface without switching between Tray and Slack.
Precise control over agent scope
Teams can decide exactly where an agent should operate: specific channels, DMs only, or custom routing based on message type.
As requirements change, scope can be updated without redeploying the agent, editing Slack manifests, or requiring ongoing Slack admin involvement. This makes it easier to iterate on agent behavior without reintroducing setup overhead.
Fewer Slack apps to manage
Native Slack Interactions also reduces Slack app sprawl. Multiple agents can run through a single Slack app installation, so teams can standardize deployment and minimize repeated approval cycles for every new agent.
